Labor Beat: Chicago Solidarity Action for University of Illinois GEO Strike

While the Graduate Employees Organization at University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign downstate went into its historic 8th day of striking, in Chicago’s Loop a contingent of CTU, the GEO at University of Illinois-Chicago, GSU at University of Chicago, Chicago Jobs with Justice, and Fight for 15 went around to specific banks to deliver a letter. The letter was addressed to three U of I Board of Trustees members calling form them to support a fair contract that would end the strike. This was on Monday March 6, 2018 and two days later the University and GEO announced a tentative agreement, which was on Friday ratified by 98% of the strikers. Among other things, the University granted tuition waiver protection, one of the issues in contention.
